A Visit To My Alma Matter

July 4th 2006

I has been 5 years since I left my Alma Matter, the astonishing Convent Butterworth. I was there for 5 years and have never felt in love with my school till that I have left it.

I was there in front of the red bricks wall with Stefanie and Yee Leng. We were stopped by the Pak cik Guard who has kindly ask us to fill in form before we can enter the school. Wondering since when the school has such a system. However there are some redundant thing in the form. They were asking for reason of our visit, name of the pupil, class and etc. We have no idea what to be writen on the purpose of the visit column as our main purpose there was only to visit the school and meet our long lost touch teachers. And the worse thing which we thought is the funniest is the column for the signature by the respective teacher. We are no parents nor students, so who should sign that column then.

Walking into the school I felt so aliened. There wasn't any familiar faces till me met Pn Lee. I think she looked so different now with the pony tail on. We had a short chat and being told that most of the teachers we knew was not in. They were away in a course. Too bad it wasn't our day then!

We met Pn Wan, Ms Pamela, Pn Komala, Pn Thilaga, Pn Fadilah and of course our respected and caring Bio teacher Pn Hasanah. Most of them looked very much the same as they were 5 years ago. We enjoyed the chats with them but not the part which we got interviewed by all of them on what we are now doing.

We met other familiar faces such as the pakcik and makcik in the canteen. These sellers remain unchanged for more than 10 years now and with the same old food.

But we were impressed with all the renovation done. They have created a Bilik Warisan...a heritage room. There they have placed many old plaque there and I have identified few which I was in. There were the names of those that had contributed to the rich history of CBW being displayed on the wall. Besides that, there was also a co-curiculum site. It was a huge compound with cemented floor. How nice it is if we were to have that during our time.

Not only that, right now the school is working on raising fund for the renovation of the hall, the Dewanton. They proposed to have a fully air conditioned, closed hall, with the design something very much like an ampitheatre. Wondering how can such a small compound accommodate all of that?

No matter how much it has changed it is still my beloved school.
