PGGA 90th Anniversary Gala Dinner

Finally the gala dinner was over. I am not sure if that was the last of our 90th Anniversary activities. If yes, then I have got all my remaining weekends of this year to myself, friends and family before diving into my study again next year.

So our dinner was on last Saturday, 26th September 2009 at Grand Ballroom of Berjaya Georgetown Hotel. This was the 3rd anniversary dinner of PGGA know to me...from the 80th to 85th and now we are in 90th....time flies!
We have been through the 80th, 85th and 90th Anniversary of the Penang Girl Guides Association

I was the PIC of the backdrop & stage and performance. Being in OC team this round wasn't easy for me as I was really busy. Juggling with office loads, teambuilding planning and preperation as well as Tzu Chi food fair were making me crazy....the timeline was all squashed together :-(

The dinner ended late at close to 12pm with Taps...but personally for me and the bunch of 'eX-Union siao kia', Evon, CW, Pn Toh and Dato Yeoh, the night was still young...we continued our day at McD Greenlane till close to 4am in the morning...at least I ended my day at 4am, the 'siao kia' would have continued till dawn.
We were fast...after 10 mins

Anyway, I was glad that the dinner still went well despite the glintch of time due to our VVIP's 'no show'. Thanks to the all my team mates in the organizing committee and my performance helpers. This dinner could never happen without them. And not to forget her highness for gracing our dinner and have brought so much spices to the night.

...all photos were from friends...no time to take photo on that night

My days in PGGA: 1998 - 2009...GangShow 2009

Time flies...this is already my 11th year in service at PGGA. I have seen PGGA celebrating its 80th, 85th and now in its 90th Anniversary...

So far in our 90th Anniversary celebration, we have had the Walkathon 2009, Girl Guides Big Line Up and World Thinking Day Celebration 2009. The recent Gang Show 2009 in Dewan Sri Pinang was another blast to our anniversary celebration.
This 3rd Gang Show of ours was remarkable. Never I have seen an local guiding event being package and branded such a way. So much effort being place on its' presentation. Perhaps this was different all thanks to the young blood of PGGA.
we are the featured in the Gang Show logo?

Thanks to our chair, CLK, all committee members and not to be missed my superb cool backstage team who manage the show excellently despite the few unwanted mid show intervals.
this was actually my favourite performance during rehearsal but sadly they did not emerged as the top 3 winners
these young brownies have a lot of courage to perform on such a huge grand stage
wonder how big our stage was? I think we can have 30 people side by side on one straight line
the young and energetic Backstage team
we who made Gang Show 2009 happened...proudly present the Gang Show 2009 committee members...

*all the photos were not my production as I was occupied all time at the back stage...THANK YOU to all our cameramen and camerawomen!

In Loving Memory of Motherly Mary Phuah

After years and series of fight against cancer, Pn Phuah finally left in peace on last Friday.

I first got to know late Pn Phuah through the girl guiding movement ten years ago. Back then she was a very an active guider in PGGA, serving as commisioner. She has raised and guided many Queen's Guides in Penang especially from Union High School.

She was so devoted and passionated towards guiding. Even after her retirement from her teaching career, she was still actively involved with girl guiding. I could not recall the numbers of camps that we have worked together and nights we have spent together under the roof of PGGA.

I love her. Prayers and god bless!

Camping and camping...those were the days

Even with such a short holiday, I spared 2 days out for guiding camp. This was a rather stress free camp. I have no test to take nor any testing to do. I remembered my camp last year. It was really a very hectic camp. Running a 5 days camp with only few of my best buddies was hecticful enough moreover, Stella, Vern and me were taking our JPC, QM and camp com test respectively and with a whole bunch of 1st time campers. We have been put understress, testing us on all aspect, physically, mentally, knowledge, management and organizing skills.

am glad that I was able to smile then...with my camp staff....missing from picture...our QM and AQM, Vern Han and Xien Yee

I am thankful to be in guiding and to have this great link to make so many new friends and meet all my sisters in guiding!

World Food Day 2007

WORLD FOOD DAY 2007

Another day to celebrate about...16 October yearly

WAGGGS is celebrating World Food Day 2007 with Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The theme this year is "The Right To Food".

Really hope that everyone can play a role here. Nothing much need to be done, just appreciate your food....every time you want to throw your food, just think about them

Besides that on World Food Day 2006, a cartoon-style story book entitled The Right to Food: A Window on the World and a companion Resource and Activity Guide were launched to educate young people and motivate them to join in the fight against hunger and malnutrition.

Do look into it! The book is available in six languages. If you would like to have a copy, please write to RTF-youth@fao.org.

Too many plans for year end break

The break has yet to come but I have been thrown with so many plans.

Yesterday I received 2 official invitation.

One is from the 3P group. It's a program co-organized by the Higher Education Ministry. They provides professional certification such as CCNA, MCSE, Java and etc here. For those unaware of what these are....they are actually professional certification for computing, networking and engineering fields and normally they are very costly (ranging hundreds to thousands). So under this program I have been selected to join the CCNA program. It is schedule from 19 Nov to 8Dec.

Secondly is the invi from the Girl Guides Asso. They are organizing a training course from 21 Nov to 26 Nov in Holiday Inn Glenmarie, KL and if I am to join them then I will be one of the facilitator cum trainer candidate there. I am not sure how far or how long more I will be with GGA but what I am certain now is that I want to contribute to guiding movement. I sincerely admire Pn Phuah for her guiding spirit. Despite her age and her illness, she is still so keen to guiding. So looking at the current situation in Penang GGA of lack of qualified trainers, I do hope that I can do something on this. Moreover this time, I think the test would be easier as it is a
centralized training course. Rather than me doing all the planning
and executing it all by myself, now we have a team of us.

I am undecided. On top of this 2 plans, I have my earlier pre-planned holiday trip. I have planned to do backpacking in Thailand, mainly in the northen cities like Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Bangkok as well as the Golden Triangle. May be crossing the Myammar border too. I have booked all my flight tickets there. This trip will be from 26 Nov to 22 Dec.

Golden Triangle - My destination this yr end

My elephant ride in Chiang Mai

River cruise in Bangkok

So which is a better choice for me?

Camper's License

31st May 2007!

This is the 2nd 31st May that is marked on my guiding career. The first was back in year 2000. I received my Queen's Guide Award from Her Majesty Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Siti Aishah. Today, again I am up on the stage to receive my Camper's License
from Her Majesty Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Nur Zahirah.

I have also witnessed the anxious participation of her majesty.
She wore our guider uniform to the ceremony. I have not seen any
of our patron wearing it. It gives me a warmth feeling as thou as
we have known each other since long ago.

I hope that Her Majesty will continue to support our guiding movement!

I am very tired now after travelling long hours on the bus.
Rushed down to Seremban on yesterday night and returned
today. I have to go to bed now, have lots of work to do at office tomorrow.

Let our guiding lights continue to burn!

Once A Guide, Forever A Guide!

Those images are still fresh in my mind. I remembered the moment my name was read out. I walked up towards Her Majesty and in no moment, the award was already on my hand.

And now, 6 years after the day, I am still much attached to the Girl Guides Association. Still very much preoccupied by the log book making. I am now taking my campers license test. It is much different compare to that time. May be I was too naive then. Now I feel the pressure...the whole of the association is looking at us.

I just don't know if it is because we have grown up or perhaps the young ones today are just too immature. I just don't know what's best I can do for them in the camp. It's too hard to accommodate to all…

Too tired to continue this blog but I know I will be there for the association…to the all my sisters in guiding…..I dedicate this song to you

Sing for Joy
Chorus:

Sing for joy, sing for love, sing for peace, sing for happiness,
Sing as you journey along
If one man turns to listen to the message that you bring,
One day the world will sing your song.
One day the world will sing your song.

Joy is for bringing to those who are sad.
Joy is a gift that is free.
Joy is the gladness that brightens each day.
Joy is a song for you and me.
Joy is a song for you and me.

Love is for giving wherever you go.
Love is for showing you care.
Love is compassion and friendship and trust.
Love is a song for everywhere.
Love is a song for everywhere.

Peace is for spreading all over the world.
Peace is the ending of war.
Peace is for justice and freedom and truth.
Peace is a song for everywhere.
Peace is a song for everywhere.
